WHAT IS A VIRTUAL CHOIR?
Basically, it's an assembly of geographically dispersed singers performing a choral work together. Individual singers, a conductor and a pianist record videos of themselves singing/conducting/playing their own parts and technicians coordinate the audio into a single performance.
Eric Whitacre (composer of 'The Seal Lullaby') is credited with probably the most inspirational virtual choir.

Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramírez
The Misa Criolla is a celebration of mass ” says Mariela Añazco, the Ecuadorian conductor and founder of the Strozzi Female Choir, “with the emphasis on celebration. It’s an expression of the soul of mestizaje. The combination of the pulsating drums like the bombo Argentino and the strumming of the charango breath life into the baroque structures of the
mass.”
The Strozzi Female Choir will be accompanied by four talented musicians:
Jonatan Alvarado – soloist & guitar
Gabriel Aguilera – charango
Carlos Renato Freyggang – percussion
Sebastiano Evangelista – piano
After the concert coffee and Latin-American delicacies will be served.

16.00 15.30: door is open ADDRESS Bleijenburg 3b, The Hague German Protestant Church LLiBRE VERMELL de Montserrat A journey through the magic world of the everyday religious life of the common people in the Middle Ages. There is little music from the 14th century such as the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat which so dramatically brings to life the everyday religious life of the pilgrims clustered round an open fire or marching cheerfully up the hill to the shrine to the Blessed Virgin. Montserrat was the second most famous shrine in Spain after Santiago de Compostela and a popular focus for local adoration. The manuscript consists largely of a collection of songs for use by the pilgrims to Montserrat. The Strozzi Female Choir will perform the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat in collaboration with soprano Mariana Pimenta, instrumentalists and a story teller. During the concert musicians and audience will connect through a narrative woven by the storyteller and the projection of paintings by Hieronymus Bosch to reflect the spirit of every song and the fantastic world of the everyday religious life of the common people in the Middle Ages. Wine tasting is available after concert. BOOKINGS / KAARTJES 7 Euro 5 Euro - children/students Reservations: [email protected] Menu Concert

Once upon a time in Venice...
DATE

ADDRESS
Ary van der Spuyweg 1, Den Haag
St. John & St. Philip Church
Antonio Vivaldi composed his Gloria in Venice, probably in 1715, for the choir of the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage for girls. The Ospedale prided itself on the quality of its musical education and the excellence of its choir and orchestra. Vivaldi, a priest, music teacher and virtuoso violinist, composed many sacred works for the Ospedale, where he spent most of his career, as well as hundreds of instrumental concertos to be played by the girl's orchestra.
The Strozzi Female Choir will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria in collaboration with a professional storyteller. This concert aims to go beyond simply performing yet another Baroque masterpiece and instead hopes to include the audience in the performance and challenge listeners to reinterpret the present through this historic work of music.
During the concert musicians and audience will connect through a narrative woven by a storyteller, enticing those present to reflect on music, time, history and beauty.

Elements of Imperfection
The one act performance portrays an array of specifically chosen Shakespeare Sonnets, supported by drone sounds of female voices based on ‘Lied von Shakespeare’ by Brahms. The main theme being ‘Elements of Imperfection’ used in the performance is a psycho-physical approach, in which transformation, working on impulse, imagination and inner and outer gesture are central. Connecting the Sonnets with sound of drone notes by female voices, the actors aim to achieve stretches in the performance in such a way to create new possibilities for the audience to meet.

The Seal Lullaby
Saturday, November 29, 2014
4.00 PM - Gallery of Fine Art De Twee Pauwen
Oranjestraat 1, The Hague
The Seal Lullaby is a beautiful story, classic Kipling, dark and rich and not all condescending to kids. Best of all, Kipling begins his tale with the mother seal singing softly to her young pup. This charming poem is the inspiration for Eric Whitacre's magnificent choral setting for women's choir. The Strozzi Choir will perform this song and also works by Chilcott, Rachmaninov, Brahms, etc.
